2025-01-01 Naha Day Trip

What better way to usher in a new year than to make a day trip to one of my favorite places on this Earth, the Naha? Jennifer & Hayden are still in town for a few more days and the weather forecast was excellent, so we made plans to make a day trip to the Naha.

I didn't really want to run too much in the dark and at this time of year we have pretty short daylight hours. That translated into a lot of running time in comparison to the time we actually were at the Naha.

Here is a map snippet from my Garmin InReach track that shows our route out to the Naha. It's about 20 miles one way to get there. My boat is pretty slow so that's about a 2 1/2 hour run for us, one way.

We got underway from my slip at Bar Harbor just before 9 AM. The weather was cold, but clear & calm.

This is my crew for the day. My daughter Jennifer and my grandson Hayden (9 years old). My dog Nova also got to make the trip with us.

It wasn't that long ago that Hayden had what I considered to be an irrational fear of all dogs, regardless of their size and disposition. Nova is such a little love bug that she quickly earned Hayden's trust.

The run out there was uneventful. Now that I have Starlink WiFi on board my grandson Hayden sort of disappeared with his tablet up into the forward berth and we didn't hear much from him until we got there.

We arrived at the Naha dock at just before 11:30 AM.

It was cold, but sunny.

We were only at the dock for a couple of hours. We had to take a couple of short hikes up on the trail to dewater Nova. Hayden briefly tried fishing for some dock fish, but they seem to have disappeared for the winter.

Faraway is quite comfortable here at the Naha. Sometimes it seems like her second home.

Naha Bay is a beautiful area. I know I probably have dozens of photos from this same location, but I can't seem to help myself - I just need to take more.

If we were to beat the darkness, we had to leave by about 1:30 PM, so that's when we left.

The run back was largely uneventful, except for the beautiful sunset we were fortunate enough to experience. At this time of year, the sun sets more in the south than the west. This was one of those times that I started taking sunset photos, and then it seemed that it was better than it was a few minutes earlier, so I would take even more photos. These are the best 3 of the bunch.

We ended up getting back into my slip at just before 4 PM, just as dark was descending on the harbor.

Total mileage for this trip was about 44 nm.

I'm already looking forward to all the boat trips I will take during 2025.
