My older sister has 3 daughters, my nieces, and the youngest of them, Emily, made the decision a few months ago to make the epic trip from New Market, Maryland to Ketchikan, Alaska with her family. My daughter Jennifer and 9-year-old grandson Hayden came into town at the same time.
Emily's husband is Kevin. The kids are Shep, who turned 12 during his visit, Ollie who was 9, and then Hannah who was 4.
Here's a shot of the whole crew, including my daughter Karen who was working and could not make the fishing trip with us.
It was a challenge getting this crew to even move in the same direction. Getting the trolling lines in the water and fishing almost seemed like an insurmountable challenge. But eventually we were actually fishing.
Trolling for salmon tends to be a somewhat boring activity for the younger kids, so they went up on the foredeck and started casting with the spinning rods. Good thing it was a warm and sunny day.
Unfortunately, we ran out of time before we hooked any fish, so we ended up going in empty handed. But I think the kids had a good time anyway, and it was good to spend time with family out on the water.
